Their Past, Your Future 2 winning bids announced | 15 December 2007
MLA have just announced the successful bids. There is also the full list available online.
"The Programme offers funding for the sector to use their collections and resources to explore innovative and creative ways of increasing community learning and young people’s knowledge and understanding of the impact and contemporary significance of conflict. This overarching aim encompasses themes of remembrance and commemoration, identity and reconciliation, citizenship, diversity, asylum, conflict resolution and peacekeeping."

Free Criminal Record Bureau checks for volunteers | 7 December 2007
The Cabinet Office has just confirmed in a press release that volunteers will not have to pay for Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks that are required for volunteers working with children and in other sensitive roles.

Bullying wrecks lives: the experiences of children and young people with a learning disability | 6 December 2007
"In the UK, an incredible 82% of children with a learning disability are bullied – this is 280,000 children. They are subjected to bullying throughout their lives. And it happens everywhere they go, making them feel unsafe outside their own homes."
Part of the "Don't stick it, stop it!" campaign, this new report highlights the effects of bullying, and makes a number of recommendations for Government and for local action.

The Citizens' Day framework | 1 December 2007
New framework document from the Citizenship Foundation, which provides "advice and guidance for local authorities, their partners in the voluntary and community sector and other organisations and individuals committed to building community engagement and cohesion through active citizenship".

"Living Places" | 1 December 2007
A new partnership of cultural bodies and Government departments has just been launched. "Living Places will help realise people’s aspirations by helping house builders, planners and all those helping to shape communities build in culture and sport from the start."
Gerry Sutcliffe MP, Minister for Sport, said:
"Culture and sport are engaging and powerful instruments for building places that are vibrant and exciting - where people will choose to live. Good design that builds on local history creates character. Playing football in the park, joining a library and watching a local play reinforce our sense of community. Living Places shows how these sporting and cultural elements can be combined to build desirable communities in the Thames Gateway and beyond."

NIACE Commission of Inquiry | 11 November 2007
NIACE have launched a Commission of Inquiry, looking into "The future for lifelong learning: a national strategy".
They have just published the first briefing, intended to inform those with an interest in the inquiry about the progress of the commission and to highlight opportunities to contribute to the debate about the future for lifelong learning in the UK.
